We have pushed an update to the mapping tool that solved a lot of the issues reported in previous versions.  Let us know what you think...

If you are having specific issue, please also add your browser and browser version. (i.e, IE6, FF3, Safari 2.0) Also, please paste a copy of the link to the mapping tool you are using. Many of these issues relate to Version 3.0 which is why we have a newer version 3.1!  '

    Cheers,

    -Kevin & the MapMyFitness Team

I just tried the Feb 19 upgrade.  That @#$^&* ad is still there blocking everything.  You can move it, but follows the mouse pointer, staying under the mouse pointer at all times, and you can't move it out of the way and have it stay away.

If you want to make the site unusable for all but premium members, you're doing a great job.  I'd rather you just discontinued the free memberships than annoy me this way.

Thanks! You Feb. 19 update is much improved! I am one happy biker :-) As for the ad, look, the economy stinks right now. Deal with it - you are enjoying the map for free :-) You can always pay. . . I, for one, don;t mind if it keeps this site running!

I'm assuming I'm now operating on 3.1: the re-center is working much better this morning, YAY and thanks!! Its first jump to the north seems to have been for a more reasonable distance, and it actually did track back to the South a few points later -- which was thrilling (ye gawds!, it really was "thrilling", as I've been annoyed by this for a LONG time, 8-) That, and having discovered how to pull the point squares out of the way so I can plot a repeat point, have pretty much solved all my current problems, 8-), YAY again. FYI, re palincss' comment above, I'm running Safari 3.2.1 on an intel Mac, OS 10.5.6, and I have no trouble with the map ad, except for having to grab it every time. I slide it off to the side, out of my way for mapping, but don't try to get it clear off; it stays off to the side for me. I can certainly understand it would be incredibly frustrating to have it "glue" itself to the cursor!

    Hi kevin,

Thanks for the new mappingtool. It looks more smoother than the older one.

However i experience one major issue  with the tool. It doesn't recognize the garmin conector plugin. So i can't import my routes. I 've already downloaded the plugin again. (i'm using firefox as browser)

My question is about the printing of maps. I get everything set up in metric on the map I create (including the elevation and notes sheet) and view it just fine, but when I go to print, it automatically shows everything in imperial. Am I missing something here?

    Morning:

Like everyone else, I have good days with the new version and bad days but it is all workable and nothing that a little patience cannot overcome. Better with it than without it.

What I have noticed though is that the "Remember me" feature when logging in seems to have ceased working since the upgrade - again not a problem as it takes all of 3 secs to log in but just wanted to let you know in case it is something that got overlooked.

    Hello,

I have the same problem as dirk_z20, the new mapping tool  does not recognise the garmin connector plugin. I am using IE7 and have also tried Firefox.

I download my training from a Garmin Forerunner 305.

When I revert to the old mapping tool the garmin connector plugin works on both IE7 and Firefox. I did not have to re install anything for it to work. Although the old tool works, it only ever downloads 100% of the routes 50% of the time, I quite often have to ask it to "Get Data" again.

I liked the ability to save direct to my Training but was always disappointed that my Heart Rate and other information was not automatically collected.

Are you joking? Is your mapping tool really supposed to put 425 px of navbar, ads, and info on the top of the page? I've got a laptop running at 1440 x 960 px. That leaves 335 px for the map. Drawing a map in that miniscule space is like trying to push a grapefruit through a drinking straw. Example (reviewing a saved run): http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/dc/washington/594148726 (Safari 3.2.1 Mac; Firefox 3.0.5 Mac)

Okay, I just discovered that the page does scroll. Scratch my initial complaint. Still - the page reads like it isn't meant to scroll at all. Perhaps that's because of my expectations from Google's own mapping UI, but it took me a few days to notice that the scrollbar was available.

About that ad: with Ffox 3 and Windows XP, I can move the ad out of the way and it will stay.  Same Ffox under Linux, the ad won't stay out of the way, but rather remains glued to the mouse pointer.

I've run into a problem with saving a copy of a route.  The notes/cue sheet was not copied.  I'm using IE7 and the latest mapping tool.  Here is the source route:  http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/tx/georgetown/417630680

I've just tried the latest version once, but it is a SO MUCH better. The undo feature is great, the "follow roads" seems much more robust, and faster. Haven't checked your elevation stats against other sources yet, as yours were consistently low in earlier versions. Still have to figure out how to turn on the mileage markers, but the improvements are enough to make me anxious to explore it further. Kudos!

Also note that in this release, we've listed to feedback about the size of the ad on top of the map, and you'll now see that it shrinks after 15 seconds.  I know you all realize we need to have ads to pay the bills here, and we're trying to make the best compromises to provide the best product possible.  Please let us know what you think!

I'm about to give up on trying to use these sites. I'm using Firefox 3.0.6 with the new mapping tool and cannot get the map to load. It freezes up after downloading the ads. Earlier, I was able to map a ride, but couldn't save it. Tried all the suggested fixes to the browser - even tried using Explorer 7.0 - nada. I've been at this off and on for about two months and I'm pretty patient, but now I'm at wits end. Here is the url for the mapping tool I've been trying to use.

Are you seeing the ad that says "this ad will shrink in 15 seconds?".  If so, you should not see that ad while logged in.  Even though you are a premium member, it is possible to not be logged in.  On the ad, you should see a "log in" link there.  If you log in, the ad should disapear.

Based on the symptoms you are describing, I would suspect interference from 3rd party security software.  Sometimes these types of software can impair some of the advanced functionality of sites like ours.  Are you using a 3rd party security software package?

It seems that when I use the new mapping tool and add the mapped run to my training log, if I enter any seconds other than zeroes the the amount of time taken by my run, the number of computed calories goes up to a huge number, like 20,000.

Just entered a new run and it was a dream! I love the way you can bend the lines to fit your route - much better, especially for someone who runs along a twisty river path!

Also, I like the way you can edit routes and remove points, this was always a frustration when trying to shorten/legthen an existing run using the old tool.

    Thanks again

The map type select is in two places now: on the map view, to the right of the "jump to" box, and in settings.  If you change your map setting while logged in via settings panel, this will set the default map preference in your user profile.

Just a couple 'nice to fix'es...I'm using IE, probably the most recent version.

Anyway, in the field where you can put your destination, neither double-clicking nor clicking and dragging allow you to highlight an already-entered destination. The only way to delete seems to be putting your cursor at the end of the destination and hitting backspace.

Also, it would be nice if in the elevation display you could hover over a section of the diagram and get the incline percent. It can be difficult trying to match the color in the display with the legend at the top when they aren't right on top of each other.

    Thanks,

    Adam

Just a couple of FYI's, nothing big... I think I must have the latest edition, the on-map menu bar is now white (was red before). Generally, things are working much better; many thanks. 1. About every other time the map loads, the scaling box on the left side stays gray and un-usable. I can't figure any rhyme or reason why sometimes it comes up OK, and sometimes not. A re-load will usually "bring it to life", but sometimes I have to completely close out and login again. It always works the second time around. 2. Have taken to using the Satellite view because it's more realistic than Street View, which, in my case, has MANY kinks in my local streets that are not there in reality, or in the Satellite view. It's like the Street view streets are from a really old map (when this subdivision was a filbert/apple orchard!), or something!! 3. My address maps incorrectly. That's another advantage of the Satellite view, it's easier to see where to really start from MY house! The pointer generated by my alleged street address is on the wrong side of the street, and one house north of where I actually am. This oddity does not correct for any of the map forms, as far as I can tell.

The new mapping tool is great! Much larger area makes it easier to see where you're going when plotting your course.

However after saving it to my training log, the calculated average speed seems haywire - I walked/ran 7km in 48 minutes (recovering form an injury) - an avg of 0.16km/hr according to the calculator. I don't think so! If it's right, I will have to join the local snail population on one of their runs...

If you are experiencing this problem, can you please post the specifics of your workout? I've been unable to replicate this problem, however if I do mistakenly put in the MM:SS as HH:MM then I see the numbers.

    ie, 1.5 miles at 18mins is 180kcal -- however, 1.5 miles at 18hrs is 4500kcal.

    Thank you!

WHERE DO I START? MAC OSX Safari I'm a Runner 1st - Mapping South does not work 2nd - Why do I have to type in "Baltimore" and" Maryland" into the city-state fields? I'm already signed in. It should know this. 3rd - Before, in the old mapping tool, calculating speed and pace on runs was as easy as clicking a button. Now it seems you have to saev your route, reopen it, then calculate, then hit update. There should be auto calculate option in preferences or noticeable. 4th - I'm in the advertising world. I crete banner ads every day. I hate that I have to move the upper right ad. After I move it I'm served another ad. I love ads from 9-5. Not 5 -10 at night. 5th - And last I have to log in every time I come to the site. I've tried saving in MapMyRun (remember me) MYFitness and so on. It never remembers me. I miss my old mapping tool.

Just a quick note...when I initially signed on the map would not allow me to zoom in. Minor problem, but perhaps fixable. I love the follow the roads feature. It saves me from clicking a million times (a bit exaggerated). One other prob is that after reviewing the map and just scrolling around the screen, the map wanted to add more to my route (even though I hadn't clicked on a street and was clicking on green land).

     Thanks, Anita

Used the new mapping tool (Mar 2?) today. It's fine, but there are a couple bugs that are pretty darn annoying:

    1) Using the hand to place markers is not very precise so my marker doesn't end up exactly where I want it. I miss the little cross.

    2) The zoom in tool on the left was grayed out so I couldn't zoom in to try to correct problem #1. When I hovered over it and tried to click to zoom, nothing happened.

    3) The delay with those new little boxes is really bizarre. I don't see how that's an improvement to have to wait for boxes to appear and flash to show me the points I've entered.

Where is the old mapping tool? You know the one with the fullscreen option that actually worked? The old mapping tool I see here is just like the new one and they are both garbage. I liked it when I could do full screen and move along the map this cutsie crap is not for me. Everytime I start to map a run I get a huge red line from some odd place I did not enter so the first thing I have to do is clear it. Can you make your site any more frustrating? Nevermind I'm sure you will. When I first started using this site it was great; then when it became a paid site it became absolute trash.

This is the worst "improvement" I have ever seen. I am sorry I have nothing more positive to say. If the free membership is supposed to encourage people to buy the premium service I am sorry to say that you will not be attracting may new users. The advert is in completely the wrong place and covers most of the tiny amount for screen that the map can be viewed in. This makes it almost impossible to "map my run" which if I am not mistaken was what the site was designed to do. Sorry again for being negative.

The new mapping tool does not scroll the map when you plot a point towards the edge of the map like the old tool did.  Thus, I have to manually move the map every time I get to the edge.  Thus, I always use the old tool because I hate having to scroll every time I plot a point on my route.  This seems like it should be a simple fix, since the old tool had this feature.  In the meantime, I continue using the old tool.
